The Elderly and Nutrition: Easy Shake Recipe for Seniors

As the human body gets older, it starts to lose key vitamins and minerals that keep it healthy and running like a well-oiled machine. Just because you get older, doesn’t mean that you have to stop caring about nutrition. You can even get all of the vitamins and minerals you need in food and drinks that are easy to consume and digest. With that in mind, you can make drinks that are easy to digest, really healthy, and tasty. Here is an example you can try out at home:

Espresso Soy Milk Shake

Calories from fat: 34%
Fats: 10.9 grams
Saturated Fats: 2.3 grams
Monounsaturated Fats: 2.1 grams
Polyunsaturated Fats: 5.5 grams
Protein: 3.1 grams
Carbohydrates: 43.9 grams
Fiber: 1 gram
Cholesterol: 0.0 milligrams
Iron: 0.9 milligrams
Sodium: 243 milligrams
Calcium: 81 milligrams

Ingredients:
Two tablespoons fat-free chocolate syrup (You can use sugar-free if you or your loved one is diabetic.)
Two 1/8 teaspoons instant espresso granules or instant coffee granules, divided
One and half cups vanilla soy ice cream (such as Soy Dreams) (Again, you can use sugar-free if you or your loved one is diabetic.)
Half cup low-fat plain soy milk

Directions:
Combine syrup and 1/8 teaspoon espresso granules in a small bowl, stirring well. Using a spoon, drizzle half of syrup mixture around the inside rim of 2 small narrow glasses. Combine remaining 2 teaspoons espresso granules, ice cream, and milk in a blender; process until smooth. Pour 1 cup ice cream mixture into each glass. Serve immediately.

Notes: This is easy to digest and really good for people who are lactose intolerant.
